Won The World Title
He was world champion in two different divisions. The WBC bantamweight won it by disqualification from Freddie Jackson on May 4, 1985, in Aruba. The WBC super bantamweight was obtained on December 6, 1986, in San Antonio, Texas, by defeating Mike Ramírez by effective knockout.

Lost His Title
The rooster lost it in his first defense, on August 9, 1985, in Miami, against Colombian Miguel"Happy"Lora, by decision. He lost the super bantamweight on April 23, 1990 against Paul Banke, who knocked him out in nine rounds in Inglewood, California and recovered it on June 14, 1991, by winning a decision against Kiyoshi Hatanaka in Japan. On March 20, 1992, he lost it to Thierry Jacob in France. On November 6, 1995, he recovered by beating Héctor Acero Sánchez by points and lost to Erik Morales on September 6, 1997, in El Paso, Texas.
